Because every child
has a dream.
For 20 years, Raising Malawi has supported children and families across Malawi — from school and the arts to life-saving surgery and care. $15 a month helps a child heal.
Give a child the chance to heal.
Sustained giving is how children stay enrolled.
A one-time gift helps in a moment. A monthly partner helps every month — that's the difference between a child finishing the school year or dropping out by April.
Sustained Impact
Your monthly gift helps pay for a child's medicine, surgery, and recovery — steady support the doctors can count on, month after month.
Inside the Work
Partners receive field updates and stories from Malawi — a direct look at the work your monthly giving makes possible.

Donate NowWhere children heal — and dream.
Malawi is one of the youngest countries on Earth — nearly half its people are children. Inside Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, the Mercy James Centre is their only hospital for pediatric surgery and intensive care: Malawian-led, and training the surgeons and nurses who will run it for generations.
Founded on a promise.
Raising Malawi is led by the people who started it — and the surgeons who make it real, every day.
Madonna
FounderOn one of her many visits to Malawi, Madonna saw the strong and immediate need for children's healthcare — and so Raising Malawi was born. The Mercy James Centre is named for her daughter, Mercy James, adopted from Malawi in 2009. Her belief that everyone deserves to be loved continues to drive her commitment to the people of Malawi.
Dr. Eric Borgstein
Mercy James Centre — Medical DirectorBorn in Malawi to two Dutch physicians, Dr. Borgstein trained in Scotland and the Netherlands and came home in 1992. For most of the years since, he was the only pediatric surgeon in a country of some 17 million. He founded Malawi's national pediatric-surgery training program — growing it from one specialist in 2010 to six by 2022 — and became Medical Director of the Mercy James Centre when it opened in 2017.
